When you’re buying a sofa to outfit your new home, whether it’s a waterfront home in Wesley Chapel, a luxury home in Apollo Beach, or a condo in St. Petersburg, you need to know what you’re getting into first.
The Sofa Buying Guide
When you buy a sofa, it pays to know what you’re looking for—and three things you need to be aware of are stuffing, stitching, and framing. (That’s all on top of comfort.)
Knead around the edges of the arms to find out whether the sofa is padded properly. You shouldn’t be able to feel the wood beneath the stuffing without actively trying to find it.
Make sure all the seams on the sofa are straight and part of smooth, continuous lines. If you see big zigzags, lumps, or worse, gaps, keep shopping.
Feel beneath the sofa’s body to make sure there are wood blocks in the bottom corners. These blocks help disperse weight, but not all sofas have them; a sofa that’s built to last will.
