Should You Upgrade Your Landscaping to Sell Your Tampa Bay Home

Many people, whether they’re selling a house in Valrico, a condo in Brandon, or a home anywhere else in the Tampa Bay area, choose to make a few upgrades, improvements, and updates before talking to a listing agent.

While that’s all well and good, it’s probably a better idea to talk to your Tampa Bay Realtor® before you spend a dime on upgrades or improvements.

But what about landscaping? Should you invest a little there to boost your curb appeal (and raise the amount people will be willing to pay for your home)?

Should You Upgrade Your Landscaping to Sell Your Tampa Bay Home?

The average cost of landscaping upgrades is about $3,500. If you’re hiring a professional designer, you can expect to spend an additional $1,500.

However, you may not need to go that far—and you definitely don’t need to add a swimming pool or do anything so drastic. (Adding a pool right before you move out can actually hurt your sale; some people just won’t buy a home with a pool, so you don’t want to limit your potential buyers. Besides, if they want a pool, they can add one once they sign the dotted line!)

You might want to invest in:

  • Sod
  • Plants
  • Regular maintenance (pruning, clipping, and all that good stuff)
  • A new walkway
  • A small fountain or other accent that doesn’t cost much but adds charm

You can expect to get all your money back at the closing table when you make landscaping improvements, and many people report that the effect on curb appeal helps them sell their homes faster, too.
