What if Your Home Inspection Turns Up Big Problems

Whether you’re buying a home for sale in Valrico or you’re looking for a condo for sale in Brandon, you need to pay close attention to the home inspection report that comes back before you make an offer. Sure, there will be little issues—there always are, even with brand-new homes—but if something major comes up, you may want to run, not walk, away from the deal.

What Happens if There’s Something Major Wrong With the House?

No matter what the inspection turns up, you have a couple of options. You can ask the seller to fix the problems, ask the seller to accept a lower offer (particularly if you’ll have to spend money to fix the issues the inspection uncovered), or walk away from the deal.

You should never ignore something major on a home inspection. Watch for things like:

  • Shoddy (or old) electrical work
  • Sagging floors
  • Cracks in the walls
  • Roof or drainage issues
  • Any structural problems
  • Bad plumbing

If any of these things comes up on your report, talk to your Realtor® about what you can do. He or she will give you the run-down and talk about the contingencies in your purchase contract.
