What To Bring To Apply For Florida Driver’s License Or ID Card

Florida ID card proof of identity

Do you need a Florida driver’s license or ID card, because you’re moving to the state? You’ll need a REAL-ID, but in order to get one, you will need to bring several documents. So, save yourself the aggravation of trying to sift through moving boxes or searching online to reorder copies. Before you move and things get lost in boxes, locate the needed documents. You’ll need a certified copy or original of one of the following documents:

  • U.S. birth certificate
  • Valid U.S. passport or passport card
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  • Certificate of Naturalization (form N-550 or form N-570)
  • Certificate of Citizenship (form N-560 or form N-561)

Next you’ll need proof of your Social Security Number. So, you’ll need one of the following documents:

  • Social Security card (with your current name)
  • W-2 form
  • Pay check/stub
  • SSA-1099
  • Any 1099 (non-handwritten)

Have those documents ready and know where they are. It will save you a huge hassle over having to re-order them after you move. Then, once you move, don’t throw your bills away! They can act as your proof of residential address. You’ll need to have two documents proving your residential address to get a driver’s license or ID card in Florida. The following documents satisfy this requirement:

  • Deed
  • Mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, or mortgage payment booklet
  • Residential lease agreement
  • Florida voter registration card
  • Florida vehicle registration or title
  • Utility bill
  • Utility work order dated within the last 60 days
