3 Last Minute Things to Clean Before a Showing

Staging your home properly is key to a good showing. Staging is more than just arranging furniture and decorating tastefully. Staging also includes keeping the home clean. Before any showing, you’ll want to make sure your home is as clean as possible. Obviously, you’ll want to eliminate clutter and have your home its sparkling best. If you’ve taken the time to keep your home neat, cleaning for a showing won’t take very long. Sometimes, though, it’s easy to overlook some key areas when you’re stressed over an upcoming showing.

3 Last Minute Things to Clean Before a Showing

  • Counters
  • Toilets
  • Front Porch and/or Steps

Counters
Take a few moments and check your counter space. Eliminate any and all clutter. Having a few decorative items on the counter is fine, but you want to make sure there is no trash or dirty dishes lying around. Wipe down your counters. Check your kitchen and your bathroom. Clean counters make a home feel more open and welcoming.

Toilets
Right before your showing, make sure you check your bathrooms, specifically the toilets. Buyers want to imagine themselves living in the homes they view. Nothing will turn a buyer away like a dirty toilet. They don’t want to think about cleaning the bathroom as soon as they move into the home. Keep cleaning off the buyer’s minds by doing the work right before they visit your home.

Front porch or steps
The first impression of your home is the front steps and porch. If the porch or steps is dirty, the impression is that the interior of the home is dirty or rundown. Take the time to check your front porch and steps. The few minutes it takes to sweep off that front area could make the difference between a buyer choosing your home or walking away.

It’s important to have a clean, well staged home that appeals to a variety of potential buyers. Right before a showing, do a quick walk through yourself to eliminate possible problems.
