Rising energy costs are one of the main reasons buyers want energy efficient homes. In a recent Realtor.com study, 71% percent of buyers said that they thought energy efficiency was important, but only 35 percent of them were satisfied with their current home’s energy efficiency.
How to Find Out How Energy Efficient Your Home Is
According to Energy.gov, you can perform a DIY energy efficiency audit by:
- Looking for and sealing air leaks in your home
- Checking your insulation
- Inspecting heating and cooling equipment
- Paying attention to how much energy your light bulbs use
- Checking appliances and electronics
Once you’ve identified problem areas, fix the issues or replace the appliances to cut down on energy consumption (and decrease your bills).
