Apartments To Go Where JCPenney, Parts Of Port Richey Mall Stood

Demolition began on the Port Richey mall known as Gulf View Square Mall on Monday. This mall was the former location of Macy’s and JCPenney. When the project is complete, 312 luxury apartments will be standing in its place. The JCPenney store closed four years ago, followed by others. B&Z Port Richey, LLC hopes to create a live-work-play community in the location of the mall under demolition. The project is called Gables at Gulf View. It should invigorate the area.

Residential construction is going very well in Pasco County. The Gables at Gulf View is the only new development for housing in the West Pasco US-19 corridor area, but it should lead to many improvements and encourage significant growth, according to Jack Mariano, Pasco County Commissioner for District 5. The project became feasible after the county waived impact fees, he said.

The demo project shouldn’t affect shoppers of the rest of the Gulf View Square Mall. All stores are expected to stay open during demolition and construction of the new luxury apartments. The apartments should be ready for occupancy in 2020.
