Planting yourself in the Tampa Bay area can be a fisherman’s dream. The Florida Gulf Coast offers many opportunities for the determined – or even casual – fisher. Fishing in this shore-front community can be as simple as walking out your door to the nearest beach or bridge and dropping your line into the water. Locals and visitors are welcome to fish from the bridges and piers in the area, either on the Gulf-facing beaches or on the peninsulas extending into the harbor areas.
If you are more determined, you can travel a short distance down Gulf Boulevard (also known as State Road 699) and visit the beloved Redington Long Pier, considered by many to be the best fishing spot in Florida. The hours for the Pier during May through August are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to midnight Friday through Sunday. From September to April, the Monday through Thursday hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with Friday to Sunday hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Whatever your choice, make sure you know the rules for your fishing permits. After all, you don’t want catch fines when you’d rather be enjoying catching fish.
