Best Florida Native Flowers For Drying

Drying flowers lets you display them for months or even years! Not all types of flowers dry easily though. So, if you are a beginner at drying flowers, choose flowers that are the easiest to dry. Now, if you intend to use a silica gel drying method, the water content is less important. Featuring native flowers in your garden is a very popular trend as people grow more concerned about the impact we have on the planet. Many choose to celebrate native flowers and other native plants too.

So, here are top few Florida native flowers that are the easiest to air dry:

  • Yarrow
  • Poppy (Argemone, Corydalis, and Sanguinaria)
  • Tropical sage
  • Florida red anise
Tips For Drying Florida Native Flowers

First off, the best time to cut the Florida native flowers from your yard is in the morning just after the dew has evaporated. Try to cut flowers that are just slightly immature. The flower will continue to open once cut. To air dry your Florida native flowers, gather the flower stems into small bunches. Stem bunches of about one-half inch in diameter work best. Wrap the stems very tightly with a rubber band. See, the stems will shrink as they dry. Make sure to hang the flowers upside down in darkness. If you don’t have a dark spot in your home, at least keep them out of the sun or the flowers will fade. When hanging the flower bunches, make sure to leave some space between the bunches, because good air circulation is an important factor in drying flowers!
