Evidence You Can Show To Prove Residence For A Homestead Exemption In Florida

Are you trying to claim a homestead exemption? Need to support your claim to a property appraiser? If you are trying to prove you’ve established a permanent residence in Florida, several pieces of evidence can support your claim. Of course, just one of these pieces of evidence won’t be enough, but multiple examples together can go a long way.

First of all, have a formal declaration of domicile recorded in the county’s public records. That’s a straightforward method that carries strong weight alone. Still, other factors help. For example, if you have children, you can show evidence that the kids are registered for school in the district. You could provide proof of employment within a reasonable commute. You could show that your previous permanent residency was terminated. Proof of voter registration matching the address is good evidence too. Of course, a driver’s license or valid state identification card could be shown. A license tag on a car you own registered to your current address can help prove permanent residency.

Other documents that can help prove permanent residency include tax returns, bank statements, and utility bills. All of these can also help prove permanent residency to claim a homestead exemption in Florida.
