Pedestrian Bridge Over Alt 19 In Pinellas County Set To Reopen In February

Pinellas County has been short one very important pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge that runs over Alt 19 near Orange Street was closed due to rust and structural concerns. It’s been closed over a year. Originally, the projected time frame for re-opening was this fall:

Now, a new estimation is set. The pedestrian bridge should re-open in February.

The pedestrian bridge helped make the area significantly safer for both pedestrians and bikers. Though it may appear like no work has been done on the new bridge, that’s only because the new bridge is being built offsite. In December, expect installation to begin with the use of heavy cranes.

You’ll start seeing the boards go up in mid November ahead of the road closure. The cranes are schedule to be onsite on December 2nd. Then, the existing bridge will be removed and a new bridge will be delivered. The new bridge is expected to be delivered the second week of December. Construction should be complete on Valentine’s Day 2019.
