Pinellas County Residents Enjoy Recreational Areas and Rich Nature Preserves

Are you a nature lover interested in moving to Pinellas County, Florida? One major incentive for potential homeowners is the county’s dedication to preserving the rich, natural areas for all current and future residents. Pinellas County has both recreational areas within the parks and managed natural areas. The managed areas within Pinellas County’s parks preserve and protect the natural flora and fauna of the area.

Though the county offers urban conveniences, it also features easy access to areas that are rich with diverse plant and animal species. Two of the nature preserves also offer education centers.

The Brooker Creek Preserve is roughly 8,700 acres of natural areas that begins just a stone’s throw away from the urban conveniences. It’s located in Tarpon Springs. It is a quiet nature preserve surrounded by a dense urban cityscape. At this preserve, residents can enjoy Florida’s forested wetlands and pine flatwoods. It provides a safe harbor for native plants and animals and allows residents to explore and learn about the unique beauty of Florida’s native species. This preserve also serves to protect a large part of the Brooker Creek Watershed. It features elaborate trails for hiking and horseback riding.

The Weedon Island Preserve is an approximately 3,700 acre nature preserve in St. Petersburg. Weedon Island has a dynamic, complex history. At the Cultural and Natural History Center’s permanent Connecting People and Place exhibit, residents can discover more about the area’s ecology and history. There are walking trails for the entire family and even an observation tower to soak up the amazing view. It even features a fishing pier and a launch for canoes and kayaks.

Both of these nature preserves in Pinellas County are open every day, including most holidays, from dawn until dusk.
