What Should A Proof Of Funds Letter Include?

If you’re a first time home buyer in Tampa Bay, you may have a million questions about the home buying process. The good news? Your real estate agent, mortgage company, appraiser, inspector and bank have all been through all of this before. Many first time home buyers have questions about Proof of Funds letters. The buyers want to know what needs to be on the letters. Rest assured, if you go to your bank and request a Proof of Funds letter, they will know exactly what to do.

Still, if you’re curious, we can also summarize this part of the process for you. We discussed Proof of Funds letters yesterday, so check out that blog post if you’re not sure how to get a Proof of Funds letter and you want to know this ASAP. Your agent can certainly explain it to you, but if you need to know now, check out that earlier post.

The Proof of Funds letter needs to include your name and the current balance in the account. It has to be printed on bank letterhead and it must be signed by a bank official. Sometimes people will accept nothing more than a recent bank statement, so you can always double check.

You can always black out the actual account number or your social security number if you’re worried about the seller seeing this information, of course. You just need to make sure it’s clear that the Proof of Funds letter is pertaining to you!

Most banks do this so often they will even have their own templates they use!
